Enrichment
Welcome to Woodfield Enrichment Opportunities!
At Woodfield, we believe that "every child should have the chance to thrive through rich, joyful and diverse experiences. This helps them discover who they are, what they care about and how they want to take part in the world."
Our Enrichment Programme is designed to give children and young people the chance to explore what they enjoy, discover what they care about, and uncover what they are good at. It provides a dedicated space outside the standard curriculum to build confidence, make new friends, and feel part of our vibrant school community.
Why We Do Enrichment & The Benefits
Enrichment gives our pupils unique, hands-on learning experiences that support both their personal development and wellbeing.
Key benefits for your child include:
Building Confidence & Self-Discovery: Children try new challenges and discover new talents, passions, and interests.
Making Friends Across Year Groups: By working in mixed groups (half Year 1 and half Year 2 pupils), children build new friendships beyond their own classroom.
Developing Essential Life Skills: Activities focus on teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, communication, and environmental care.
Supporting Wellbeing: Dedicated sessions promote mindfulness, physical movement, and self-expression.
How It Works
When: Every Friday afternoon from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM. After their session, pupils head directly to assembly and then return to their own classes before the end of the school day.
Mixed Class Groups: Children are placed into paired groups combining Year 1 and Year 2 pupils (e.g., Rowan & Silver Birch, Poplar & Maple, Oak & Ash). They stay with their group for the whole cycle to build strong friendships and peer connections. These groups will be changed every term so that children expand on their friendships.
EYFS Transition: EYFS complete enrichment across all three Reception classes. In the Summer term, we explore links with EYFS to support a smooth transition into Key Stage 1.
What Will Your Child Experience?
Our enrichment activities offer a broad range of practical, hands-on, and exciting experiences. Here are just some of the activities your child may take part in throughout the year:
Adventure & Nature Explorers: Orienteering, Forest School activities (such as making story sticks and nature pictures), and gardening to care for our school environment.
STEM & Design Technology: Hands-on science experiments ("Super Science"), team-building challenges (like building marshmallow and spaghetti structures), and practical D&T skills like crafting bird boxes.
Creative Arts & Media: Photography (building a school photo gallery), filmmaking, creative crafts, singing, and musical theatre performances.
Community & Communication: "Roving Reporters" interviewing peers and writing newsletter articles, as well as learning Makaton to communicate through greetings, colors, and animals.
Active & Young Sports Leaders: Team games and outdoor leadership skills.
Wellbeing & Culinary Skills: Cooking and baking (smoothies, pizzas, biscuits), mindfulness practices, and creative wellbeing activities like dreamcatcher making.
